Rebul - History

Soon after the people arrived in this new land, within a generation of the landing, the hordes of The Harkness decided to drive them out and take what was theirs. Tribes of Orcs and Goblins as well ogres, mountain giants and other fell beasts all under the command of the Tyrant King descended from the hills, to take what they saw as ‘theirs’. It was a long hard fight, the armies were slow to gather, and to start with there was squabbling about which general should be in charge – until the king elevated Rebul, Paragon-General of The Most Illustrious Order of the Silver Bolt, to the position of War-Duke and gave him full authority over the other generals.

In a series of hard fought battles the armies of Urgon slowly defeated the hordes, killing many of the foul beast and diving the others back whence they came. The final victory came in these hills that were later to become home to General Rebul and the Order of the Bolt, when the Tyrant himself was slain and driven from the field of battle, and his minions suddenly broke ranks and scattered to the far end of the hills. General Rebul planted his standard, and stood his ground, reclaiming it in the name of Urgon. In gratitude the King confirmed Rebul’s elevation to the position of Duke, and gave him those self same hills as his duchy and charged him with the task of ensuring that this route into the hills was forever closed to those hordes.

It took a while but eventually a system of government developed - Duke Rebul left the Order of the Bolt to establish his noble house, but entrusted security of the area to the order, and then gave the church responsibility for ensuring that the people were cared for properly according to The Heironean Code. In return the Duchy of Rebul would become home for the Heironean faith within Urgon.
Eventually a tri-partite system of governance arose with the Noble House of Rebul, advised by both the Order of the Bolt and the Church of Heironeous. It is even accepted that heirs to Titles of House Rebul will all have served for a period within either the Order or the Church and will be dedicated followers of Heironeous at the time of their elevation.
