Food and Drink

A number of different foods are available across the Urgon as a whole, although different social classes eat in different ways. This gives an 'over all' pattern, but local conditions will change the availability of foods. For example in a coastal area fish may well be more common than mutton.

Availability of Drinks

Price Range Drink Description
Cheapest Tea The leaves from a mixture of herbs - dried, shredded and then steeped in hot water - it is served unsweetened, without milk and often has a slightly minty taste. (non-alcoholic)
Cheapest Small Ale A mildly alcoholic, yellowish beer made by diluting and re-fermenting the mash leftover from brewing. It tastes like a slightly herby, thin watery beer.
Every Day Ale An 'average' brownish beer. Just about every home or hostelry makes its own beer - and although they all have slightly different recipes, with different combinations of grains and gruits - they all taste very similar.
Every Day Cider About the same strength as ale, cider is normally fermented on the farm where the apples are grown and then sold locally. It is has a somewhat acidic taste and is a cloudy greenish yellow colour.
Every Day Wine If you order wine, you will be served a locally produced rose. It is not particularly special but it is a reasonable everyday table wine. Most towns have a single, winery where all the grapes are sent for processing.
Every Day Fruit Juice Apple, Plum and Grape are normal flavours. These are not pure fruit juice but the fruit is crushed and then boiled in water to extract as much flavour from the fruit as possible it is only ever sold locally. (non-alcoholic)
Occasional Fruit Juice Blackberry juice is available but is more expensive. Like the other juices, the fruit is crushed and then boiled in water to extract as much flavour as possible. It is only ever sold locally. (non-alcoholic)
Occasional Fortified Wine Wine witha spirit added to make a stronger longer lasting drink. Thunderbird wine is a fortified wine made in Hapsburg from a mixture of grapes and plums. It is usually drunk to finish a meal off.
Occasional Aqua-Ignis The local spirit - made by fermenting then distilling what ever is available locally. In Hapsburg they use a mixture of grapes, plums and the pomace left over from wine making. Aqua-Ignis is a strong, fiery drink, whose flavour changes from village to village, that is generally sold in shot glasses and drunk 'straight down' rather than savouring it.
Occasional Bottled Beer Stronger than average beers, these are made by specialised breweries using standard recipes, and are often imported from other regions. For example: 'Laroy Witte' is very light and is said to have a rich flavour, while 'Strong Dwarf' is dark red and has a bit of a tang - it is reputed to contain mushrooms.
Luxury Good Wine Red or white imported wine
Luxury Imported Spirits Whiskey, Brandy, Kirsch, Slivovitz and other imported spirits
