The Order of the Shrines
This is the formal state religion of Urgon, and was set up in the early years to ease co-operation between the various religious groups that arrived with the early settlers. While other religious organisation are permissible - they cannot receive any official help and are required to pay taxes. The Order of the Shrines, on the other hand, is exempt from taxes and is eligible for official funding, should it be required.
Pelor, St Cuthbert, Heironus, Kord and Moradin are the 'official' deities worshipped within Urgon, and only Clerics of these five deities can hold the most influential offices within the order, although Elhona, Yondolla, Garl GlitterGold, Corellon Larethian, Wee Jas, Boccob and Fharlanghn are recognised as 'acceptable' gods, and their clerics may serve within the structure of the order.
In most towns and cities the Order has built a Collegiate Temple, the larger ones overseen by an Abbot and the smaller by a Prior. Apart from living accommodation each temple has a large chamber given over to individual shrines dedicated to different gods, and has clerics dedicated to different deities serving it. Some of those clerics will be an established part of the temple's college and live in, others may be part-timers who come in to conduct an occasional ceremony. Priors and Abbots always come from one of the five main religious groups, other collegiate clerics may dedicate their lives to any deity on the approved list.
In smaller villages the Order may well just build a shrine or two, possible within a small building but sometimes outdoors or in some other public place. The shrine can be dedicated to any of the approved religions, and a low-level or part time cleric, of the appropriate faith, will assigned to look after the shrine. However, the village still falls under the aegis of the local collegiate temple and gets irregular visits from clerics dedicated to other deities.
